Northampton Transport Heritage Bus Tours
14th September, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
FreeA Chance to Explore Northampton’s History by historic classic buses! Celebrating 25 years of Heritage Open Days in partnership with Northampton Borough Council. Don’t miss this special weekend. Though the actual Heritage Open Days this year stretch for 10 days, we are only running bus tours to places that are open on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September.
If you love local history and heritage, don’t miss Northampton’s Heritage Open Days from 13-15 September, with over 30 historic venues in and around town open to the public free of charge. This year’s event is extra special, as it marks 25 years since Heritage Open Days started!
It’s your chance to discover more about some of the town’s oldest and most unique buildings and places, including the Victorian Gothic Guildhall, the ancient churches of St Peter’s and the Holy Sepulchre, the 1460 Battle of Northampton site and the Tudor Hazelrigg House.
And it’s not just about the buildings, there are walking tours of the lost Northampton Castle site, a route tracing the history of the town’s Suffragettes movement, an exhibition of Shakespeare-related leather items, a Heritage Fair and even an opportunity to take a seat in the Magistrates Court!
Plenty of churches and venues beyond the town centre will also open their doors across the weekend. Visit the Jeyes Museum in Earls Barton to learn about the Victorian brothers and chemists who invented Jeyes Fluid, or stop by the Royal Ordnance Depot at Weedon, which was once a small-arms depot for the British Army and dates back to the Napoleonic Wars. For transport lovers aswell as the buses their is also the award winning Engine Shed at the University and the Ironstone Railway at Hunsbury Hill.
Many venues can be reached by a classic heritage bus service, which sets off from George Row in the town centre. Download the timetable;
