Northamptonshire Walks – Fotheringhay

15th September, 2022

website maker Date: Thursday 15th September 10.30am
Walk: Fotheringhay
Distance: 6 miles
Difficulty: Flat, easy walking across fields & tracks. There’s only one stile on this walk. Livestock could be present & we do climb the castle mound
Number of people: Maximum 20

This is simply a stunning walk & the River Nene here is beautiful. We start in Fotheringhay, scene of the execution of Mary Queen of Scots & the birthplace of Richard III. From there we cross fields and water meadows to arrive at beautiful Elton Mill. Next we walk across the Elton Estate to Warmington with views of Elton Hall. Now we turn west past Warmington Mill & walk straight back towards Fotheringhay church & Castle site. We’ll climb the mound where the views of the Nene are amazing & hear stories of the deeds that happened here. Then we cross the river to get the photograph that’s on every Northamptonshire calendar. Finally we visit the church. This walk has everything.
