Paint an Icon Retreat
9 September - 13 October
Yorkshire Icon School Presents an Icon painting retreat. A five day course for anyone who is looking to improve their mental and spiritual health.
In recent times Icons have become more widely used and venerated in the western Church. They have a depth and power which draws one into a deeper prayer life. Icons, for all their newness in the west, are part of the common heritage of our Church. They have always been seen as a means of communication of the Gospel. It would seem to many that writing an Icon is a daunting task, especially for those who have no formal artistic training. To give way to those thoughts is to misunderstand our aims. Many have come on our Icon courses who have not painted since leaving school. At the end of the course they have been able to produce an icon that is more than acceptable. They are surprised by what they have achieved.
No previous experience is needed – just a willingness to have a go. You will produce a pleasing Icon at the end. We will be writing the Icon Jesus Pancrator, from St Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, or St Peter and Paul as displayed above.
The dates for the course are Monday 9th September – Friday 13th September 9:30am- 4pm in The Cathedral, Peterborough, with thanks to the Dean and chapter.
All the tools, materials and equipment needed will be supplied.
