10th September, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Tours of a 14th century collegiate church with medieval undercrofts of the college buildings. Fine lantern tower. There will be a small display of historical materials and refreshments available.
St Peter’s Church was founded as a collegiate church in 1388 and became a parish church after the dissolution of the monasteries. The church is largely a medieval building with a fine octagonal lantern tower which was rebuilt in the 1890s. The medieval undercroft of the collegiate buildings still remains and there will be tours throughout the day. The church also has medieval misericords, medieval monuments and windows by Kempe and Morris and Co. Described in Pevsner as “a quite remarkable sight.”
