The Guildhall
17 September @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

A rare chance to see the spectacular interiors of the Guildhall, built 1861 -64 to the designs of EW Godwin and extended in 1889-92 in similar style by AW Jeffery and M Holding. This is a wonderful example of Victorian architecture.
The guided tours will allow you to visit areas of the Guildhall which are not always open to the public. You can explore areas including council and public meeting rooms, the old Town Hall keepers living quarters and the basement cells
Meet the Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Stephen Hibbert in this historic setting and learn about the Civic traditions of Northampton’s rich Mayoral heritage.
Explore the Mayor’s corridor exhibiting a historic timeline of Mayoral portraits and discover all about the Civic history of Northampton on display.
Be a Mayor for a Minute!
Children and adults alike are welcome to dress up as the Mayor in the Mayoral robes on display, take a selfie or two and be #mayorforaminute
History Re-enactment
Learn about Northampton’s rich and varied history as reenactors bring the stories of Northampton’s heritage to life. Taking inspiration from historical characters depicted within the Guildhall itself, visitors can meet a shoemaker and lace maker as they practice the ancient crafts of the town, and find out what happened in the Civil War with re-enactments from Charles I and Oliver Cromwell
Moulton Morris Men, will perform three slots of traditional English Morris dances throughout the afternoon. Based in the Northamptonshire village of Moulton, the group will not only perform all the varieties of Sword and Morris, but also specialise in local dances of the county.
