Wood carving course in the beautiful Stanwick Lakes nature reserve!

Have you ever wanted to learn the traditional craft of Wood Carving? This one day course is suitable for those just starting out and also for carvers who would like to develop their skills further.

The day starts with the introduction of the tools and the techniques and materials used for making a wood carving by hand. This will be followed by a small carving project to become familiar with the basic skills and then, after lunch, you will move on to a new project that involves creating a larger relief carving. The course leader for the day is Peter Schwartz, a carver who has been teaching and working in the local area for over 30 years.

The day is run in a very flexible format and, as mentioned above, is suitable for beginners and also for more experienced carvers who would like to develop their skills under the guidance of Pete. As well as running courses Pete also makes many bespoke items – village signs, one off carvings, garden furniture ……. and ‘Welcome Signs’ like the one here at Stanwick Lakes! Trading Places is based within the beautiful surroundings of the Stanwick Lakes nature reserve, in the heart of Northamptonshire’s Nene Valley. All the courses take place in and around our purpose built green oak Training Barn. Course places can be booked for one or more people depending on availability.
