St Matthews Church Tour
The building was designed by local architect Matthew Henry Holding in 13th Century Gothic style. The foundation stone was laid on St Matthew’s Day in 1891. The church was dedicated on St Matthew’s Day two years later, 21 September 1893. Artworks include Henry Moore’s Madonna and Graham Sutherland’s Crucifixion. Abington Church with a link to William Shakespeare!
The historic church will be open for visitors to look around. Some parts of the church date back to 1200 and it has a connection to the Bard! Abington church stands in Abington Park. Visitors will be able to look around inside. No booking required.
