Father’s Day Gift Inspiration

7 top ideas to put a smile on your Dad’s face this Father’s Day

A retro gift — treat your Dad to an item that reminds him of his childhood with a gift from a local antiques shop. Or how about a favourite LP to play or to frame up and put on the wall. Have a browse for old favourites in charity shops, like the Oxfam store in Oundle which specialises in books and music. (Did you know there’s a monthly record fair held at the Boardhouse at Rushden Lakes on the first Sunday of each month?).

Make it a challenge – give your dad a voucher to try something new, be it canoeing with Canoe2 at Rushden Lakes, sailing with Nene Outdoors at Nene Park in Peterborough, or learning to do stand up paddleboarding with Adventure Rutland at Sibson Marina. Pick an activity that’ll make the day memorable for both of you.

Say cheers with locally made food and drink – curate a collection of delicious local produce, as well as beer and spirits from the Made in Northamptonshire store at Rushden Lakes.

Quality time – how about a day’s fishing along the River Nene or in one of our many fishing lakes. If neither of you have been fishing before, the Get Fishing campaign is staging introduction sessions locally. Check out the website www.getfishing.org.uk and book yourselves in!

A round of golf  – we are blessed with a selection of top quality golf courses in the Nene Valley. If he’s new to the game, book him a lesson with the residential golf pro. Alternatively, the Thorpe Wood Golf Academy in Peterborough offers golf coaching for all abilities.

A day out with the whole family – head to Rushden Lakes to explore the Nene Wetlands Nature Reserve and immerse yourself in nature. Pick up a map from the visitor centre and take a walk on one of the many footpaths and enjoy sculpture trails, viewpoints, the discovery play area and learn something new in the education area.

A meal out will be a welcome treat on Fathers’ Day – we’ve got plenty of choice in the Nene Valley, from top quality restaurants, hotels, and of course gastro pubs. Be sure to plan ahead though as the best venues will be booked up well in advance.

Ask Dad to share his bucket list with you and choose something you can help him tick off.
