The Advent Procession

In association with Kidney Research.

A moving service to mark the beginning of Advent, with music from the Cathedral Choir. In association with Kidney Research UK.
In the Middle Ages, the Church kept Advent as a time of great solemnity – a time to think about the ultimate reality of death, judgement, hell and heaven. But Advent was also a time of great rejoicing. For Christ will come, not only as Judge, but also as Saviour. Advent therefore provides a vivid preparation for Christmas, as we prepare to welcome the birth of the Christ-child. This service aims to recapture something of that Advent longing and hope. It begins in darkness, and as the procession of Clergy with the Choir moves through the Cathedral, so the light spreads with it. This journey through the cathedral from west to east, and from darkness to light, speaks of the Church’s hope in the coming of Christ, the Light of the World. The service ends in confident hope in the one who is to come
All are welcome.
A collection is invited in aid of Kidney Research UK and Peterborough Cathedral.
