London Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN4 8AX
The 1460 Battle of Northampton was the first large-scale battle in the Wars of the Roses. It is unique in that it was the only time during the wars that a fortified encampment was assaulted and taken, the last time protracted negotiations proceeded a battle, the first use of massed artillery and the only time that a whole army was excommunicated during the wars.
Full access to the cross . Access to the battlefield viewing point is limited as it is through woods. Please wear clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather conditions. The track to the battlefield may be muddy if it has been raining.
