Winter Walk to Kings Cliffe’s Millennium Wood

27th February, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Free

Wrap up warm and put on your boots! Join Charles Tomalin for a guided walk to some of the village’s wild places including Millennium Wood and the Old Railway line

This is one of  a series of free guided walks being organised by a new project – Rockingham Forest Vision.  Kings Cliffe has always been one of the most important village settlements in Rockingham Forest with a tradition of wood turning and carving. In recent years the Wildplaces group of volunteers has re-vitalised many sites around the village, creating open public spaces and managing them for biodiversity. Charles will take us to Millennium Wood, a 10-acre woodland planted just over 20 years ago. Owned by the Woodland Trust the local community has been intimately involved in planting and managing the wood which has already developed into a wonderful area, with abundant wildlife. We will see the Village Field, the Common and Kings Cliffe Meadow and appreciate the work that has produced such a varied mosaic of habitats. Another highlight of the walk will be the old disused railway line which, through the energetic determination of the group, has been opened up for walkers, linking Apethorpe to Fineshade Wood.
